It was Victoria from Devoted to You Events who sent Rachel and Isaac my way, and I'm so glad she did. After seeing the engagement shoot with Lauren & Michael, they mentioned that they loved the photos in the water. At this point, we were sort of at the end of water season, but if they didn't mind getting a little cold, I would make it happen.
And when I say cold, I mean just-on-the-crest-of-November kind of cold, with an early start to chilly nights, which would have already dropped the water temperature. But Rachel and Isaac were willing to brave it for our last chance to get these photos before the season really ended.
No joke, this was the last sunny day before dreary, chilly, rainy November days dropped all the leaves practically overnight. The light was gorgeous, and so were Rachel and Isaac when they arrived to a perfectly private lake beach.
We chased the sun as it set behind the trees, enjoying the distinctly autumn glowy golden light against a blue sky. I love this location, because it can look private and remote while still being just steps off the road.
As the sun drops down and we start to enter blue hour, water starts to look like glass with near perfect reflections of the sky and scenery around it. An engagement shoot in water is always going to feel romantic, but I also look for the art.
For Rachel & Isaac, with their chemistry and love for moody photography, I wanted to give them a diverse selection of photos to choose from for their "Save the Date", and I also wanted to give them photos that feel like art they could hang on the wall.
