When Afternoon Media asked me to be an Associate Photographer for Leah and Chad's alt wedding at one of my favorite off-beat Pittsburgh wedding venues, how could I say no? Show me two people with tattoos who're in love and I'm down.
The urban vibes of Downtown, Pittsburgh, are worth the challenge of being anywhere downtown, even if that means sharing space with about a thousand Pitt fans dressed in blue and yellow walking about.
Leah and Chad began their day at the super modern Industrialist Hotel, and then we migrated up the hill, to the WBU Event Venue.
I feel spoiled for options when it comes to capturing photos of details at The Industrialist, whether it's with the marble walls on the ground floor or the interior of the bar next to the lobby.
Editorial and retro high flash styles really thrive when urban grit meets elegant luxury — even better when I have a little bit of punk rock edge to work with, like Leah and Chad.
Leah's sophisticated white satiny dress and both her and Chad's pearl details against the dark, art deco architecture of the Downtown skyrises felt on point no matter where we were.
After popping some champagne, Leah headed to Chad at the foot of the hotel for a First Look and a private vow exchange. Then we took a trip with the wedding party for some quick photos, before heading to the location of the ceremony + reception: The WBU.
The juxtaposition of color in the floral arrangement of Leah & Chad's ceremony site felt like the soul of modern Pittsburgh honestly encapsulated. I love couples who choose to have their Big Day at the WBU, because they always know how to embrace the art and poetry in Pittsburgh's Steel City history.
Black linens, moody lighting, and pops of jewel tones make me feel all tingly inside. Leah & Chad shared their first dance together, and then meaningful dances with family that still make me teary.
Easily the funnest part of the night was when Leah and Chad ducked out for some late night Taco Bell on the steps of the WBU (with Baja Blast, of course).
